Campus Construction Update for Week of Sept. 27

These are among the construction activities scheduled at the University of Wyoming during the week of Sept. 27-Oct. 3:

Berry Center, Cowboy Dorm, WRI Storage Buildings, Old Power Plant -- Demolition is complete on the Cowboy Dorm. With the removal of Building #5 along the alley, foundations from the WRI storage buildings will begin to be removed. Items from Old Power Plant are beginning to be removed. Note: Construction signs from the project are being stolen daily, and the stone sign from the Old Power Plant has also been stolen. Please report to the Campus Police if you see any suspicious behavior.

WRI Building Removal -- The Western Research Institute buildings east of the Bureau of Mines Building will be moved to prepare for Berry Center construction. There will continue to be intermittent closures of the service entrance off of Lewis Street to remove the final WRI Building from the site. The service entrance will be blocked for sufficient periods most of the day Saturday, Sept. 26, and Sunday morning, Sept. 27 for final removal. Please use extreme caution when using the service entrance on Lewis Street and expect delays.

Lewis Street Apartment Removal -- The third and final apartment is anticipated to be moved in a couple of weeks. Please use caution on Lewis Street between 11th and 12th Streets.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- In the original building, the mechanical system will be in the process of balancing and finalizing the systems operation. At the addition, work continues. Contractor plans to start excavation for a manhole in the southwest corner of the site, placing landscape boulders and begin preparing for walks at the entrances. Window and masonry installation will continue on the exterior. Taping of drywall will begin in the basement, metal framing will continue on the ground floor and second floor, and utility rough-ins will continue on the second and third floors.

ILLC, Information Library and Learning Center) -- Contractor will finish up the landscaping east of the Union and concentrate on landscaping along 13th Street. Finish work continues on the interior of Coe Library on the ground level of the original building. Several truck loads of shelving and furniture will be arriving the week of Oct. 5 using the loading dock on the south side of the building.

Kendall House (at 8th and University Streets) -- Notice to Proceed has been issued and construction fencing will be going up around the site. Parking will not be allowed along the alley adjacent to the property.

Student Health/Cheney International Center -- Furniture will be delivered on Wednesday, Sept. 30, to the Cheney Center conference rooms. Most work has been completed; however, the pharmacy HVAC system is still being adjusted.

Veterinary Laboratory -- Steel erection will begin during the week. Painting and striping of the parking lot will begin early in the week.

Arena-Auditorium (Scheduled Completion: Oct. 16) -- Accessible seating is being added, with demolition scheduled to be completed this week.

War Memorial Stadium Expansion and Improvements (Scheduled Completion: Fall 2010) -- The East Stadium parking lot will be open on game days. Work on upper deck continues.

College of Law, Moot Court Addition and Renovation -- The glass for the donor wall is scheduled to be installed on Tuesday.

Visual Arts -- Geotechnical testing will be continuing onsite (Willett and 22nd) throughout the week of Sept. 28.

Bioscience General Classroom Renovations, Phase 2 (Scheduled completion date: Dec. 21) -- Construction is scheduled to begin in Bioscience Building Room 220. Punch list items remain in Bioscience Rooms 217, 218 and 219. Staging area takes up 1 parking spot in the Hoyt Hall loop drive.

Centennial Complex -- Exterior block repair is complete. Block cleaning, sealing and caulking is tentatively scheduled for this month. Staging for the contractor is on the northeast side of the building.

The UW Physical Plant has scheduled the following activities for the week:

Elevators -- ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) upgrades will be performed this month for several campus elevators. Work has been completed on the main elevator at the Law Building and it is now operational. The Law Library elevator will be out of service through Sept. 28. The main Law Building elevator may be used for access to all floors.

Concrete and Asphalt -- Concrete replacement at Cowboy Field has been delayed due to colder temperatures. Work should resume next week. Miscellaneous grinding to smooth uneven concrete on sidewalks across campus will continue through September. Please avoid work areas.

Health Sciences Building -- Exterior light replacement around the building is complete. Landscaping on the east side continues.

Agriculture Building -- Painting will be ongoing next week in the lobby area. Exterior doors on the south side will be closed. Please use caution in this area.

Campus Grounds -- Sprinkler systems are being winterized across campus from now through October. There may be occasional overspray on sidewalks and around buildings.

Campus Greenhouse -- Steam system replacement continues in front of the greenhouse. Sidewalk accessibility on the north side of Willett may be interrupted during work hours. Pedestrian traffic will be routed around the work area as needed. Work will continue throughout September.

Student Union -- Carpeting throughout the building is being replaced. Work will continue for a couple more weeks.

Engineering -- Window sills will be repaired on 4th, 5th & 6th floors inside of the court area on the east wall.

Old Engineering Building -- Domestic hot water service has been interrupted in the Sawtooth area of the building due to a leak on the existing storage tank. Work to replace the failed tank will continue through September. Hot water should be restored by the first of October.

RMMC (Regulated Materials Management Center) -- Re-roofing continues. The staging area is on south side of building. Please use caution when entering from the south and around the staging area.

Geological Survey -- Roof replacement is complete.

War Memorial Fieldhouse -- Roof replacement continues on the north side of the building. The staging area is on the west side of the building. Please use caution when entering from the north and around the staging area.

Arena-Auditorium -- Work will begin on the repair of the supply and return air fans Sept. 28 and will complete around Oct. 6. There will be minor impact on the occupants during this replacement.

Knight Hall -- Capstones will be set on the southwest planters of the building. Please use caution in this area.

Southwest Campus (9th & Ivinson) -- A bench pad will be poured near the Veteran's Memorial in the grass hollow.
