The sculpture "It goes under," created by New York artist Steven Siegel, will be removed from its location along the Laramie Greenbelt Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Siegel's work is one of 18 public artworks in the exhibition "Sculpture: A Wyoming Invitational," organized by the University of Wyoming Art Museum. Siegel installed the sculpture last summer. The final form of "It goes under" was influenced by flooding of the Laramie River early in the installation process.
"The site, along the Laramie Greenbelt near Commerce Street, offers a natural setting surrounded by pathways, roadways, and corporate structures," says Shantana Judkins, publicist for the UW Art Museum. "Known for his use of recycled material, in this case red mulch, the artist created a meandering, worm-like form."
Other sculptures in the exhibition remain throughout the Laramie community and the UW campus. The exhibition will be ongoing, with sculptures being added and removed over the next few years. The most recent sculpture added is "Untitled" by Los Angeles artist Charles Long, located in the Art Museum rotunda.
