The University of Wyoming will host an energy symposium at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, in Room 217 of Casper College's Strausner College Center.
The event, sponsored by the UW International Studies Program, School of Energy Resources and Department of History, is free and open the public.
Gov. Freudenthal's Energy and Telecommunications Adviser, Rob Hurless, will open with a discussion of Wyoming's place in the national energy equation.
Jean Garrison, UW director of International Studies and associate professor of political science, will discuss China's rising energy demand and implications for U.S. foreign policy.
Marianne Kamp, UW director of Women's Studies and associate professor of history, will discuss the pipeline game involving the Caspian Basin, Russia and the West.
Peter Wold, president of Wold Oil Properties, will focus on oil, wind and clean coal development and the global energy picture.
"The symposium will focus on the issue of energy security, how to address the looming global energy crunch and how the world's response will determine future prospects for cooperation or conflict," says Garrison. "As an energy-producing state, Wyoming has a direct stake in the emerging volatile trends in the global energy market and a possible voice in determining solutions to the energy crisis."
