Gabriela Alvarado

Dr. Gabriela Alvarado, MD, PhD is an interdisciplinary researcher dedicated to advancing reproductive justice and health equity. Her career bridges medicine, public health, anthropology, and policy analysis, with a central focus on the experiences of women, youth, underserved, and rural communities in the United States and Latin America.

 

She has vast experience leading and collaborating on studies examining maternal health programs and policies, telehealth breastfeeding support, community engagement in public health, and reproductive policy. Dr. Alvarado's research employs qualitative, mixed methods, and implementation science to inform policy and practice, and has been published in leading journals such as JAMA Network Open, Women’s Health Issues, and Sexual and Reproductive Health Matters.

 

Prior to joining the University of Wyoming, she was a policy researcher at RAND, a nonpartisan think tank. She has also worked in primary health care delivery, the health nonprofit sector, state government, and as a consultant for the Pan-American Health Organization. 

 

Dr. Alvarado obtained her medical degree from the University of Costa Rica, and has a masters in public health and anthropology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Georgia State University. She completed her Ph.D. in policy analysis from the RAND School of Public Policy.
