Preparing for Move-In

We are so excited to welcome you to campus in the Fall!

As you are preparing to move in, check out what items are provided, what to bring, what not to bring, and other ways to make your move to campus seamless and stress-free. Our staff is here and ready to help, so don't hesitate to reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns you may have!

What we Provide

Roommates hanging out in their residence hall

  • Twin XL bed and mattress (beds are able to loft and bunk)
  • Closet with four drawers

  • Desk with chair

  • Vanity with sink, mirror, counter space, and storage

  • Window with blinds

  • Trash can

  • Internet (wired and wireless)

  • Room Key: Access to your room will be loaded onto your WyoOne ID, which is your responsibility and should not be given to others.

  • 24-hour staff on call
  • Safe, clean, secure living spaces

  • Staff front desk

  • Laundry facilities ($2.50 per wash, $1.75 per dry; total $4.25 per load). Laundry facilities:  Access laundry through the ClearToken app. More information can be found through Vending Services.

  • Ice and vending machines

  • Study Rooms

  • Community Lounges (these feature couches, tables, chairs, and a tv)

  • Bike Racks and Storage Lockers (found outside White & McIntyre)

At the University of Wyoming, the Residence Halls are locked 24/7. Your WyoOne ID gives you access to your building. 

The University of Wyoming Police Department (UWPD) operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. UWPD offers a variety of services in addition to their regular patrol. Residents are encouraged to register for the UW Alert text system for important campus announcements regarding safety and security.

WHAT TO BRING

 Here’s a list of stuff to think about bringing with you or shopping for after you Move-In. We encourage you to consider reducing the number of personal belongings you bring with you to campus, as doing so will help to ensure you have a quick and easy unloading process. 

If you have a roommate - don't forget to touch base to avoid duplicates!

  • Coffee pot (without an open heat source) and/or electric kettle (with automatic shut-off)

  • Mini fridge (4.6 cubic feet or smaller)

  • Microwave

  • Water bottles, cups, plates, bowls, mugs, and flatware

  • Thermos (dining venues give discounts when you use a reusable mug or bottle)

  • 6-gallon garbage bags

  • Sheets (Twin XL)

  • Comforter and/or blankets

  • Pillows and pillowcases

  • Mattress topper

  • Hangers

  • Closet organizers

  • Storage containers

  • Desk organizer and supplies

  • Surge protector

  • Small desk lamp (halogen lamps are not permitted)

  • Fan

  • TV (there is no cable in the rooms, but you can use streaming services)

  • School supplies

  • Posters and pictures

  • Adhesive putty or 3M strips (no nails, tacks, or double-sided tape)

  • Rug

  • Futon 

  • Laundry basket

  • High-efficiency detergent

  • Dryer sheets

  • Note: Since rooms have a sink, bring cleaning supplies

WHAT NOT TO BRING

The following items are prohibited and should not be brought with you. For more details and specifications about what is and isn't allowed, please refer to our Policies & Procedures.

  • Alcoholic beverages and alcohol paraphernalia.

  • Empty alcohol containers

  • Illegal drugs or paraphernalia such as bongs, vaporizers, grinders, pipes, etc.

  • Extension cords or multi-plug adaptors

  • Power strips without circuit breakers and reset buttons

  • Space heaters

  • Halogen lamps

  • Unapproved loft bed equipment such as cinderblock bed risers, or bed risers with power outlets built-in is not allowed 

  • All candles with or without a wick, incense, fireworks, gasoline, kerosene, butane, and all other flammable materials

  • Dry-erase or cork boards that affix to walls or doors

  • Knives with a blade that projects or swings into position by force of a spring, by centrifugal force, by gravity, or by any other force, such as combat and switchblades

  • Any blade over three inches in length (e.g., ceremonial and fencing swords)

  • Explosives and dangerous chemicals

  • Possession or threatened usage of any projectile weapons (slingshots, water guns, paintball guns, air guns, and or any guns that fire foam or plastic pellets)

  • Misuse of any personal defensive device, such as pepper spray or tasers

  • Any other weapons or dangerous items including but not limited to: martial arts weapons, metal knuckles, blackjack, sap, or similar instruments

The UW Police Department provides free weapon storage for all UW students living in UW housing. See UW Regulation 6-4 and FAQ’s for information about weapon storage and concealed carry policies.

  • Refrigerators over 4.5 cubic feet

  • Toasters and toaster ovens, hot plates, or electronic cooking grills

  • Devices or appliances with an open heat source and without a thermostat and automatic shut-off features

  • Air conditioning units

  • BBQ grills and smokers

  • Instant Pots

  • Pets (only fish are allowed, which must be held in a tank of 10 gallons or less)

IF YOU BRING

If you bring a car to campus, you must buy a parking permit. Cost may vary depending on the lot assignment. You can purchase your student parking permit for the upcoming semester and/or academic year online.

 

Consider that with the free bus system, SafeRide, or your own bike, you may not need to bring a car to campus

 

Explore your transportation options

Often items are purchased prior to moving to the University of Wyoming but are not needed. We recommend purchasing once you are in Laramie and have determined need, in order to save money and reduce waste.

The UW Police Department provides free firearm and bow storage for all UW students living in UW housing.  Due to limited storage space, we will not store cases or ammunition, and students are limited to a total of three weapons plus a bow. 

Storable weapons include:

  • Rifles

  • Shotguns

  • Handguns

  • Compact bows

  • Crossbows

We are unable to store knives, mace canisters, or any other weapons as well as any ammunition or magazine cartridges.
