Math Placement Frequently Asked Questions

We're sorry you are encoutering this problem!  When you are getting a Proctor Password screen, this is a mistake because there is no password.  The troubleshooting steps are:

1. Are you using Google Chrome Browser with the Honorlock extension installed? You should see a little shield with a checkmark in the upper right corner of your browser, or see Honorlock when you click the puzzle piece after the extension is enabled. Note that Honorlock does not work on any other browser. 
2. If Honorlock has launched and told you that you are ok to take the exam and you see a submit password screen, just hit submit even though the field is empty. Honorlock is supposed to automatically submit the password for you but there is a glitch for some students where they must manually hit “submit”.
3. If nothing is working, utilize the 24/7 Honorlock Support. Look for the three dots in the upper corner of the Honorlock screen; if they aren't able to assist you, contact me at math-registration@uwyo.edu and we will do my best to help you troubleshoot your issue during a Zoom chat.

Use Google Chrome as your browser and download this Honorlock Extension: honorlock.com/aleks?v=uwyo

Once Honorlock is downloaded, make sure it is enabled in your extensions. Look at the right corner of your browser (under the icons for minimizing and closing the page).

• Click on the little shield with a checkmark and make sure it says "enabled" OR
• Click on the puzzle piece.  Make sure Honorlock is showing enabled (the slider is green). 

If you do not see Honorlock in either of these locations, try downloading the extenstion again.

If you tried these steps and it still isn't working utilize the 24/7 Honorlock Support. If they aren't able to assist you, contact math-registration@uwyo.edu and we will help you troubleshoot your issue. 

When the calculator is available for a question on the MPE, the calculator button will show up in the upper right corner of your screen.

The calculator is not available for every question.

The questions where a calculator is not provided are doing so because using a calculator would hide the concept that the question is trying to see if you know.  For example, an order of operations question will not tell us if you know order of operations if you could just put it into a calculator.  We appreciate you taking the time to complete the calculations by hand so we can place you in the class that gives you the best chance for success.

The MPE is an assessment. The goal is to get you into the class that is the best fit for where your math skills are right now.

The Prerequisite and MPE Cut score Reference Chart will tell you what class your score indicates you are ready for right now.

If you think your score does not adequitely reflect your knowledge, please take it again!  We will use the highest score of any assessment attempt for your math placement.

You can go directly to the ALEKS site and sign in with the credentials you created when you made the account.

If you don't know your username, you can find it in an email ALEKS sent to the email you provided.

If you can't find the email or encounter an issue, you can call the ALEKS helpline at 1-800-258-2374.

If it has been more than one year your access has expired.  You will have to purchase access again.  You can do so

• by phone: (1-800-258-2374) and give them the class code 6EKAN-DPQQ3
• by creating a new account

If your class is showing "on hold" then the access you purchased has not been applied.  You should have a 20 digit access code in your email.  Click on the class in the "on hold" section, select "apply access" and enter the 20 digit access code.  (Note: the access code is not the same thing as the class code!)
