Alex Annan

Dr. Alex Annan is currently Assistant Lecturer of Music Theor/Composition at the University of Wyoming. Prior to joining the faculty at UW, he served as Instructor of Bass at Casper College in Casper, Wyoming. He holds a Doctor of Arts in Jazz Studies from the University of Northern Colorado. Throughout his graduate studies at UNC and the University of Kansas, Alex was awarded 4 DownBeat Student Music Awards, two for his playing with the top big bands at each institution and two for arrangements for jazz combo and jazz big band. He was also a finalist in the 2023 ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers awards. His 4th album "Northern Dreams" was a semi-finalist in the Best Album category for the 5th Petrichor International Music Competition.
Alex is an active freelance musician in the Denver/Northern Colorado areas as well
as in Wyoming. He has played with many jazz greats included Diane Schuur, Anat Cohen,
Sheila Jordan, and The Brubeck Brothers. His current creative focuses are on composition
for bass as well as studio orchestra
