Kaleb Ward

As piano technician at the University of Wyoming and devotee to refined performance in ensemble, Ward dedicates his passion for disciplined music-making by striving to refine each of the instruments under his care with discipline and artistry. The core philosophy of Ward's work is the marriage of empiricism with artistic sensitivity. While studying piano technology both in his undergraduate and master's degrees at the Florida State University College of Music, Ward delved into researching the acoustic objectivities of the tone-producing mechanisms of pianos with special focus in the phenomena of false beats and inharmonicity. Ward worked as a piano technician in a graduate assistantship role, combining his knowledge and musicianship to cater piano and harpsichord care to the needs of various faculty and graduate studios, ensembles, guest artists, and prominent performances. One of Ward's special offerings to university musicians was (and is) the tuning and adaptation of historical temperaments in collaboration with early music ensembles and the opera. At the same time, Ward actively performed with various ensembles in a number of capacities, as baritone/tenor/countertenor in diverse vocal ensembles from gospel choir to early music consorts, as an instrumentalist in early music, and occasionally as composer of sacred music for men's choir.
