Wyoming's K-12 teachers can learn how to incorporate primary sources-based instruction into their classrooms during a workshop July 7-9 at the University of Wyoming.

The suffrage issue in Wyoming and the nation will be explored in a teachers' workshop co-sponsored by the Library of Congress and the UW American Heritage Center (AHC) and Department of History. The workshop will be offered at the AHC, located in the Centennial Complex, 2111 Willett Drive in Laramie.

A fully refundable $50 deposit is required no later than June 25 (payable to the Department of History, Attn: Michael Brose). Continuing education credit is available.

For registration information e-mail Jeannine Collins at jcollins@acsd1.org. Three nights of hotel lodging will be provided at the Econo Lodge of Laramie; reservations should be confirmed no later than June 25.

Workshop participants will explore the beginning of suffrage in Wyoming among other civil rights issues through the use of primary sources held by the AHC, says Brose, UW Department of History head. These include the papers of legendary UW Professor Grace Raymond Hebard, Wyoming's most noted suffragette.

The Library of Congress digitized materials will also be utilized through its American Memory Web site, which holds many manuscripts and photographs related to suffrage nationally, including the papers of Susan B. Anthony.
