A Letter from UWYO Nursing Dean Mary Burman
New Faculty Positions
As I reported a year ago, UW’s been through a somewhat tumultuous time due to budget cuts and changes in administration. However, things are stabilizing at UW and the future looks bright. The Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing received three new faculty positions to address critical needs, so we’ll be searching to fill those positions this spring. More information on these position openings is now available on our website. Spread the word!
New Strategic Plan for UW, College of Health Sciences, and Nursing!
UW has developed a new strategic plan--called “Breaking Through”--available on UW's
website: https://www.uwyo.edu/strategic-plan/_files/docs/strategic-plan-2017-2022.pdf. A few highlights of the plan are the focus on statewide engagement and outreach;
programs that address workforce needs of the state and region; new advising models;
and faculty, staff and student diversity. The School of Nursing is finalizing its
plan based on UW's overall plan. We’re focusing on graduating nurse leaders, collaborative
partnerships for improved health, and significant, sustained scholarship. More to
come! We’ll have our plan available for review later this spring.
Upcoming Reaccreditation Visit
The School of Nursing is gearing up for a reaccreditation visit from our accrediting
agency, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Our self-study will
be due at the end of 2018. Faculty and staff have already done quite a bit of preparation.
Our BSN, MS and DNP curricula have been reviewed and fine-tuned to meet the accreditation
standards and to ensure that we are offering the best programs possible.
ReNEW Curriculum
We really look forward to the first Wyoming community college students arriving at our [online] doors to complete the ReNEW curriculum. As you may recall, ReNEW is the name of our statewide shared BSN curriculum. Students can start at any of the Wyoming community colleges, complete their Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and then finish up the BSN at UW through online education. We’re really excited about this!
Wishing all of you a happy, productive 2018!
