Basic Course Information
Class Delivery & Format
All courses are delivered fully online in an asynchronous format (no scheduled class meetings) through the Canvas-based WyoCourses learning management system at the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy. Fall and spring courses run over an 11-week period, with breaks for Thanksgiving and Spring Break. Each course is approved as a 2-credit course by the school’s Curriculum Committee and includes weekly online multiple-choice exams as well as a comprehensive short-answer and essay exam at the end of the term. These courses follow a structured schedule and are not self-paced.
Grading & Materials
Courses use either textbooks or written monographs as core learning materials. Additional learning materials may include case studies, documentary short films, journal articles and pre-recorded video lectures. Active student participation in the course discussion board is required throughout the duration of each course. Courses are graded as A, B, C, D, F. Plusses and minuses are not used.
Tuition/Cost
Any professional or graduate student at an ACPE-accredited school or college of pharmacy qualifies for a special in-state tuition. Specific tuition rates are determined on an annual basis. For information about the tuition in a particular academic term, contact the admissions office at admissions@uwyo.edu. Tuition and fees are subject to change. UW is not able to provide financial aid for non-degree seeking students registered in these courses. The Higher Education Act and current state authorization regulations impact the admission of out-of-state students in the University’s distance education programs.
Available Courses
The instructor for all courses is David Brushwood, RPh, JD. David is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Wyoming, and he is Professor Emeritus at the University of Florida. The University of Wyoming continues its efforts to comply with state authorization regulations. The Higher Education Act and current state authorization regulations impact the admission of out-of-state students in the University’s distance education programs.
PHCY 5670 - Medication Malpractice
Using a case-study approach, potential legal liability issues are studies, within a health care context that primarily focuses on legal liability related to the use of medications. Strategies for reduction of legal liability are explored. The implementation and oversight of legal risk management programs is addressed.
PHCY 5240 - Pharmaceutical Homicide Prevention
Legal pharmaceutical products are sometimes used by healthcare professional criminals to kill people. This course focuses on identifying the zone of risk for people who could be harmed by pharmaceuticals, and the development of best practices to protect patients and other from the harm.
Application & Administrative Process
- Obtain approval from your home school/college of pharmacy to take an online Pharmacy elective for transfer credit.
- Review information about non-degree seeking students at UW.
- Apply to the University of Wyoming as a non-degree seeking graduate student.
- Complete course requirements.
- At the end of the term, email registrar@uwyo.edu and request that a transcript be sent to your home university.

Instructions for Non-Degree Graduate Applicants
- Fill out personal and demographic information. Save and Continue.
- Applicant Type will be Graduate Studies – Pursuing Master's, Ph.D./Ed.D or certificate. Reason for Applying- short response. Save and Continue.
- Fill out Program Info. On the drop-down, choose: Non-Degree-Graduate (Online). This is assuming the class is online. Choose Start Term ex. Fall 2025. Save and Continue.
- Fill out Academic History-High School, Residency Information, Academic History-College, Background Information, Test Scores and Payment Information.
- In the Document Upload section, upload a copy of your Pharmacy transcript or Proof of Bachelor’s degree.
- Read the Admissions Agreement and click the box at the bottom and then click Submit Graduate Application.
