Research Experience

Dr. Escobedo earned her PhD in Criminology and Criminal Justice from The University of Texas at Dallas in 2026. Her research centers on military service and the criminal justice system, examining how veterans and service members experience incarceration, law enforcement, and correctional work. Specifically, Dr. Escobedo uses qualitative and quantitative methods to examine institutional and post-release outcomes of justice-involved veterans, as well as employment outcomes of law enforcement and prison officers with military backgrounds. Through her research, she seeks to inform policy and institutional practice by clarifying how military experience shapes outcomes for those throughout the criminal justice system. Dr. Escobedo's research has been published in Punishment & Society, Journal of Crime and Justice, Criminal Justice Review, Armed Forces & Society, and Journal of Criminal Justice.

 

Other Activities

Dr. Escobedo has served as a Managing Editor for Police Quarterly since 2024. She also actively works with Cengage to create interactive activities for textbooks across criminology and criminal justice curriculum.
