WyoGlobal assists UW faculty and staff in all things international, from research to partnerships, including dedicated support with: funding, programming, faculty-led study abroad courses, site visits, research support, and education guidance.

Center for Global Studies supports faculty and staff in pursuing internationally-oriented research, including:

  • The CGS international research grant award, funded largely by the Wyoming community
  • Access to other UW international grant and scholarship opportunities
  • Information on dozens of external grants and scholarships

For more information, visit the CGS Grant Opportunities page.

Fulbright Scholar Program: Each year, the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program provides various funding opportunities to conduct research abroad. There are several types of funds based on discipline, type of travel, and length of academic career:

Faculty across UW develop and run directed study abroad programs across the globe. Our Education Abroad team supports faculty and their departments to facilitate education abroad programming, including outlining steps, developing timelines, managing fiscal policies and compliance, and delivering high quality education.

For more information, visit the Faculty-Directed Program page, or contact Sara Robinson.

WyoGlobal maintains funding to support UW faculty and staff who are already abroad to conduct short site visits to establish and maintain international partnerships on behalf of UW. The goal of this modest grant fund is to provide supplemental funding to cover additional expenses associated with conducting such visits as an add-on to faculty or staff pre-arranged travel.

What is an international site visit? A typical site visit would be organized by WyoGlobal and the staff of the organization being visited, and is usually limited to a short office or campus visit. Site visits may include activities such as touring a university campus, meeting with local faculty and staff, speaking with prospective international students, familiarization visits with established education abroad partners, etc. WyoGlobal will work closely with traveling faculty or staff to arrange an appropriate visit in alignment with time and interest.

Who is eligible to apply, and how much is the grant? Any UW faculty or staff is welcome to conduct a site visit as part of previously arranged travel, and will be reimbursed up to $250 per approved site visit.

What is required of grant recipients? Grant recipients are asked to provide feedback by completing a brief site visit report. WyoGlobal reviews these reports as part of our mission to continually assess operations and further extend UW’s global engagement. Unless permitted, feedback will not be shared directly with host organizations.

Contact WyoGlobal for more information.

For UW Faculty Across Disciplines

University of Wyoming “University Studies Program (USP)” requirements:

Currently, the University of Wyoming only indirectly requires the general undergraduate population to demonstrate global/international/diversity competency. Under “Personal and Social Responsibility,” a non-credit bearing student learning outcome detailed in the 2015 University Studies Program, students are required to demonstrate “Intercultural Knowledge and Competence,” which is described as follows:

"Students will acquire an understanding of diverse cultures and philosophies within and across societies, and recognize the value of interacting with people different from themselves. Through coursework and co-curricular activities, students will: 1) Understand various perspectives from within diverse traditions of cultures, regions, religions or worldviews. 2) Compare historical complexities and how those influence societies, politics, economics, social issues, and communications between groups of people. 3) Examine global organization and interdependence."

Thus, if you are a member of the teaching faculty, consider the following:

  • Design curricula that challenge students to consider various perspectives, historical complexity, and global interdependence.
  • Emphasize the complex cultures and identities of students, both domestic and international, already enrolled in your classes.
  • Encourage students interested in international experience and research to study abroad. Be sure to encourage your students to apply for numerous scholarship opportunities, such as those offered through CGS and WyoScholarships.
  • Offer your students class credit to attend international events around campus, or design class assignments that require students to engage in UW's international community.
  • Consider doing your own international research.
  • If you have more questions about how to internationalize coursework, contact global@uwyo.edu.

There are over a dozen global cohorts at UW, facilitated by the Center for Global Studies, to support faculty and staff in conducting, showcasing, and supporting international research and programs. These cohorts, led by UW faculty, are broken into regions and are interdisciplinary. They provide access to collaboration, faculty support, partnering and event opportunities, and a limited funding string. They also help facilitate a number of globally-focused student events across campus. Current cohorts include:

  • Central and North Asia
  • South Asia
  • Southeast Asia
  • Latin America and the Caribbean
  • Scotland
  • Cardiff
  • Europe
  • East Europe
  • Turkey
  • Africa
  • Middle East and North Africa
  • Japan
  • Oceania
  • China

Cohort activities are fluid from semester to semester, based on faculty involvement, capacity, and interest. For more information, or support organizing a cohort, contact cgs@uwyo.edu.

Run by the Center for Global Studies, UW in Scotland develops faculty expertise and brings opportunities to students and the state through transdisciplinary exploration and knowledge exchange in Scotland. The program offers faculty development grants, generates transdisciplinary courses, and facilitates international knowledge exchange for the Wyoming community.

To learn more or help us further build opportunities, visit the UW in Scotland page or contact Caroline McCracken-Flesher: cmf@uwyo.edu.

Departments and faculty members play a key role in supporting international students, whether through education or as advisors, partners, or collaborators. International Students & Scholars can assist in guiding departments, faculty, and staff in best coordinating with international students.
