Shawn Bunning is a Grants Development Manager with the Research Development Office embedded in the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. He began this position in September 2024 after working previously in the UW Arabic and Middle East North Africa Studies Program and, for several years prior to that, in the UW Global Engagement Office and International Programs Office.
Originally from northcentral Kansas, Shawn has lived in Laramie, Wyoming for the majority of his adult life. Prior to coming to Laramie, Shawn taught English in Japan (Chiba Prefecture) as an Assistant Language Teacher with the JET (Japan Exchange Teaching) Program and spent a year between high school and college in Normandy, France as a Rotary exchange student.
Shawn's work with the Haub School for ENR focuses on identifying extramural funding opportunities including grants and fellowships and assisting Haub School faculty, staff, and students in the preparation of competitive proposals to secure funding for research as well as outreach and service activities that align with the Haub School mission and priorities. He values the chance to contribute to the important work the Haub School for ENR does in support of Wyoming stakeholders and communities.
Beyond his work, Shawn enjoys spending time with his family (wife and three kids) and pursuing his interests in foreign languages, travel, outdoor recreation, and reading on a wide range of diverse topics. He also enjoys involvement in music and theatre activities both on and off campus.
