Background and Expertise
Maya Daurio is an Associate Research Scientist in the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. She is currently part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary group of scholars examining participation in local-level wildfire planning to understand how collective, cross-jurisdictional planning efforts inform wildfire management. As a interdisciplinary scholar, Maya draws on approaches from anthropology, geography, social-ecological systems science, natural resources governance, and her background as a GIS Analyst for nearly ten years working for local and state governments. Her ongoing research explores: how people and governance structures adapt to large-scale environmental changes as a result of disaster and climate change; multi-hazard approaches to disaster risk reduction; and shifting agricultural livelihoods and local climate change knowledges in Nepal.
