Background and Expertise

Alexander Hancock is a Research Scientist in the Ruckelshaus Institute, where he plans and facilitates collaborative processes and other Institute engagements. In this capacity, he has worked with the Bridger-Teton, Black Hills, and Manti-La Sal National Forests, helping forest staff develop their engagement strategies and facilitating the forests’ meetings with local governments and other agencies.

Alex came to the Ruckelshaus Institute after nearly 15 years in the private sector, where he worked as a content developer in educational publishing and a knowledge manager in the tech industry. Through this work, he gained expertise in communicating complex ideas in language accessible to a broad public. He also led regular collaboration in internal, cross-functional teams and with external partners, in addition to developing and delivering customer trainings.

His graduate work in the Haub School’s Environment, Natural Resources & Society master’s program focused on the language we use to describe environmental policy, and how that language can promote or inhibit collaboration. His current work at the Ruckelshaus Institute combines his communications experience with his passion for multiple-use public lands, fostered by years of volunteer work on the Angeles National Forest.
