My name is Tao Han and I am the Team Leader for the Asian American and Pacific Islander Employee Network. I teach courses that focus on Diversity in Education, Diversity and Politics of Schooling and Disciplinary Literacy at the University of Wyoming. I currently serve on the editorial board of the Journal of Literacy Research and provide further leadership for the Literacy Research Association as a co-chair for Critical Race Theory Group. I examine issues of social, racial justice for ALL people as such my research can be located in journals such as Race, Ethnicity and Education, International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education, Journal of Diversity in Higher Education, The Urban Review, and Urban Education on topics of social justice in teacher education, counter narratives of faculty of color, and racial literacy in predominantly White university and classrooms in rural settings.
My name is Adam Comeau and I am the Co-Lead for the Asian American and Pacific Islander Employee Network. My position at the University of Wyoming is the Aquatics & Risk Management Coordinator for the Campus Recreation Department where I employee students as Lifeguards and Facility Employees at the Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center. Additionally, I currently serve the university as a Staff Senator to help improve the quality of life for UW staff members and I am also an instructor for the Green Dot program which addresses issues of sexual assault, dating domestic violence, and stalking on college campuses.
My personal mission is to provide organizational leadership for this group. I see leading this group as advancing my personal and professional concerns for social justice, diversity, and inclusion. Particularly I intend to propose goals and a mission that will give the group some structure to co-construct positive meanings as faculty and staff of Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage working at a predominantly white institution.
Proposed Goals and Mission for the Asian American and Pacific Islander Employee Network:
This Asian American and Pacific Islander Employee Network, initiated with the support of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, will be an open and welcoming group that will encourage a variety of interactions and conditions critical to the sustainability of our entire academic community. Among those interactions conditions may be:
To encourage positive interactions among Asian American and Pacific Islanders at the university
To promote a sense of identity and group membership
To promote interactions between Asian Americans and Pacific Islander faculty and staff
To recognize and to foster conversations that are relevant to Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders
To encourage interactions between university employee networks
To increase awareness of resources within and beyond the university that could support and sustain the Asian American and Pacific Islander Employee Network
As a group, contribute to an atmosphere of diversity and inclusion across the university community
