Biography
Janet Lear is an academic professional lecturer who teaches Educational Foundations courses in the School of Teacher Education at the University of Wyoming. Prior to her work at UW, she was the Educator Development Specialist at the Colorado Department of Education where she oversaw the authorization and reauthorization process of all Colorado educator preparation programs and provided recommendations to the Colorado State Board of Education on approval of endorsements for institutions of higher education and alternative licensure programs. She was a clinical professor at the University of Denver, lecturer at the University of New Mexico, and adjunct faculty member at the University of Northern Colorado. At these institutions, she developed and taught courses in Reading/Literacy Methods, Children’s Literature, ESL/Bilingual Education Methods, and Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. At the University of New Mexico, she oversaw all literacy methods courses across the four campuses throughout the state and developed online courses to meet the needs of rural areas. Dr. Lear worked as a K-8 teacher, reading specialist, and ESL coordinator in urban, high-need schools. In addition, she has been an educational consultant and program reviewer for AdvancEd, online curriculum developer for Pearson MyLab Online Learning, and scorer for EdTPA. She was awarded the Outstanding Instructor of the Year Award at the University of New Mexico and the International Dyslexia Association Leadership in Literacy Award.
