How to Apply for Graduate GIST Programs

Application Deadlines

Students applying for a Thesis Master's in GIST, who would like to be considered for Graduate Assistantships should apply by the following deadlines:

Fall 2024: February 26th, 2024
Fall 2025: February 28th, 2025

All other applications are considered on a rolling basis. Please allow 3-4 weeks prior to the start of the semester for application review and processing.

How to Apply

To apply for the online professional M.S. in GIST or an online graduate certificate in GIS, Remote Sensing, or Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS):

  1. Click here to access the UW graduate applicant portal
  2. After filling in this form, you will receive an email with a link and a temporary username and password
  3. Provide the information requested at the provided link
  4. Submit the $50 application fee
  5. Submit all required documents to the online document portal (see requirements below)
  6. Submit official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions to UW Admissions: Address: University of Wyoming Admissions, 1000 E. University Ave., Laramie, WY 82071

Requirements for Admission

Degree Seeking (M.S. degree or graduate certificates)

  • Graduate Admissions Process Overview at UW Admissions (visit Graduate Education for details)
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree (no restriction on major)
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary schools you have attended Minimum GPA of 3.0 in previous coursework
  • No GRE required!
  • Current resume or curriculum vitae (CV)
  • A personal statement that describes your academic interests, career goals, related experience and accomplishments, and relevant coursework.
  • 2 letters of recommendation are required for students applying for the Research M.S. in GIST (with thesis)
  • Student's enrolling in online programs are expected to have a computer and internet access

International students must also include the following. Please visit Graduate Education for more information about international admissions.

  • Official Academic Transcripts
  • Financial Statement
  • English Proficiency – Results of TOEFL or IELTS for some international students

Note: Most courses for these credentials are online, and certain fees apply (e.g., $25/credit distance fee)
