Competencies

A competency is a measurable pattern of skills, behaviors, and attributes that an individual needs to effectively perform a specific job or occupational role. By incorporating competencies into our talent management approach, we promote greater consistency, fairness, and more focused employee development across the organization.

 How Are Competencies Used?

  • To assess and select candidates during hiring
  • To evaluate and manage employee performance
  • To identify and support employee training and development needs
  • For strategic workforce planning

Competencies focus on how work is performed—emphasizing the skills and behaviors that lead to success—rather than simply what is done.

About Our Competency Framework

We use a well-established Competency Dictionary that has been thoroughly vetted by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and other HR experts. For a detailed overview, please refer to the Competency Dictionary with Key Behaviors document.

Each job description or job group will include the universal core competencies alongside a tailored set of role-specific competencies.
