John Hoberg

Dr. John Hoberg is a professor in the Department of Chemistry.

The Hoberg group is involved in the photocatalyzed conversion of water to oxygen and hydrogen via the use of binuclear metal hydrides. We design and prepare binucleating organic ligands that force the close approach of the metal catalysts to promote hydrogen more efficiently than their mononuclear counterparts. We are also targeting these same metal scaffolds to the reduction of carbon dioxide. In essence, these systems are examples of both chromophore and catalyst residing in the same structure capable of performing metal catalyzed photoconversion reactions.
