Jon Pikal

Dr. Pikal is an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

The primary focus of Dr. Pikal's research group is studying the properties of novel optoelectronic materials and devices. We are currently investigating the use of quantum dots in a light absorbing function for optical to electrical energy conversion in advanced solar cell structures. These devices would use quantum dots as the absorbing material and quantum wires to facilitate transport of the carriers to the contacts. The basic idea is to take advantage of the unique properties of these different nanomaterials to optimize the conversion of solar energy to electrical power.
