Borrowing Privileges

Library privileges are automatically extended to all registered University of Wyoming students, appointed or emeritus faculty, and permanent staff with a valid WyoOne card. Privileges include:

  • Access to all University Libraries materials; borrowing of all circulating University Libraries items
  • Access to Prospector
  • Access to Request It
  • Access to electronic subscriptions and databases

Library privileges are extended to all members of the University of Wyoming Alumni Association with the presentation of an Alumni Association card and a photo ID at any University Libraries Help Desk.

Through the association, alumni are granted access to all University Libraries materials within the libraries, have borrowing privileges of all circulating items, and receive off-campus access to numerous Libraries databases through the WyoAlumni website.

* Registration must be updated annually. Please see our Alumni Guide for more information.

Library privileges are extended to retired University of Wyoming faculty and staff with the presentation of a valid WyoOne card. Retired faculty and staff may maintain their former library account and borrowing privileges. This includes access to circulating items and Prospector and Request It services. Online materials, including databases and other electronic resources, may be accessed from on-campus computers. UW Board Retirees who retain their account on the UWYO domain may continue to access online materials from both on and off-campus.

Community and courtesy library cards are available by request at any library Help Desk and provide borrowing privileges (excluding Prospector or Request It services) to:

  • Wyoming residents and spouses/dependents of University of Wyoming affiliates with a Wyoming driver's license, state ID card, WyoOne campus ID card, or government-issued photo ID and proof of residency. Residents under 18 years of age must have a signed parental permission form (PDF) on file. Registration must be updated annually.
  • Non-Wyoming residents with a driver's license, state ID card, or government-issued photo ID. A $20 account registration fee is assessed annually.
  • Campus workshop participants with authorization from the workshop coordinator, a parent/legal guardian permission form if under 18, and a photo ID. Registration is limited to the term of the workshop.

The Libraries participate in reciprocal borrowing programs with a number of institutions. Agreements and policies vary with each program.

Wyoming community colleges libraries, the University of Wyoming Libraries, and George W. Hopper Law Library are partners in providing resources to the higher education community in Wyoming. Students, faculty, and staff are welcome to borrow library materials when visiting participating institutions. Present a current valid ID from your college or university along with a government-issued ID to borrow materials for free, and items must be returned in person or by mail to the library from which you borrowed. Checkout periods and other policies may be different from your home library, and you are responsible for any fees for late, lost, or damaged items. Some library services, such as interlibrary loan and remote database access, are limited to current employees and students of that institution. Please schedule an appointment in advance if you would like to meet with a librarian.

Faculty, staff, and students from the Colorado State University and the University of Northern Colorado with the presentation of a valid campus ID card and a photo ID at the Coe Library Circulation Help Desk. Cards must be validated every semester at a University of Wyoming Libraries circulation desk.

Linked Patrons

Any library borrower may authorize a representative to check out materials on his or her behalf by completing and signing a Linked Patron Permission Form (PDF). Each account owner assumes responsibility for all library transactions made by his or her representative. Under the Linked Patron service:

  • Two borrower accounts will be linked together; these account owners are the only representatives who can check out and renew library materials on behalf of the other.
  • Both borrowers' accounts must be in good standing in order to transact library business for the other.
  • Information regarding a borrower's account will not be shared with his or her representative unless it regards a library transaction made by the representative.
Renewals and Returns

All library materials may be borrowed except current periodicals, newspapers, reference books and microforms. These items are library use only.

Materials in the Emmett Chisum Special Collections, the Rocky Mountain Herbarium collection and the Jackson Research Center must be used at those facilities.

Renewals may be made at any University of Wyoming Libraries Circulation Desk, online via our Online Renewal Form, over the phone, or through My Accounts. Overdue materials may be renewed in person, over the phone, or online.

Items that are not authorized for renewal or that have reached their renewal limits must be returned or physically brought to a Libraries Help Desk to be re-checked out.
