Bio
Upon graduation, Antoinette worked for ten years as a retail pharmacist and owned her own pharmacy for part of that time. She also worked at the Wyoming Department of Health and a Pharmacy Benefits Management company. Antoinette is currently the Coordinator of Experiential Education at the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy.

Antoinette is actively involved in and has chaired/co-chaired the Wyoming Rx Abuse Stakeholders (RAS).

She also authored a Pain Management Toolkit that is available online through the RAS website, and she currently maintains the RAS website. She also chaired the RAS Education/Outreach committee and oversaw the development of an educational campaign focused on bringing awareness about prescription drug abuse to Wyoming residents and teens/young adults.

Antoinette is involved in the Women’s Civic League of Cheyenne, Celebrate Pink, Cheyenne Frontier Days W-Heels, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), American Pharmacists Association (APhA), and the Wyoming Pharmacy Association (WPhA).

 

Research Synopsis

Antoinette Brown’s research and scholarship focus on prescription drug misuse, opioid awareness, and preceptor development in pharmacy education. She has secured competitive funding to design and deliver statewide educational programs addressing prescription drug abuse, including the “Dangerous Games!” Prescription Drugs series and Prescription Drug Abuse Awareness Presentations, supported by the Otis L. Hoy Memorial Fund, the Wyoming Department of Health, and the John P. Ellbogen Foundation. Her collaborative projects have also examined pharmacy student preparedness to address substance misuse and evaluated student confidence in recognizing and intervening in cases of prescription drug abuse.

Her publication record spans peer-reviewed research and applied scholarship. She has co-authored articles on experiential education innovation, virtual site visits, and strategies for student success in virtual patient-care settings, published in Currents in Pharmacy Teaching and Learning and The Senior Care Pharmacist. She has also contributed to the literature on geriatric marijuana use and clinician considerations in Consultant Pharmacist. Beyond traditional publications, Ms. Brown has created extensive professional resources including student and preceptor manuals, the widely distributed Preceptor Related News (PRN) Newsletter, and toolkits supporting chronic pain management and naloxone training.

Ms. Brown’s scholarship is also disseminated through frequent invited presentations and outreach. She has delivered more than 30 community and professional presentations on opioid stewardship, prescription drug education, and preceptor communication, including programs at the Wyoming Pharmacists Association, UW ECHO in Behavioral Health and Geriatrics, and numerous community organizations. Her integrated program of educational research, professional development, and community-based drug awareness initiatives has advanced both pharmacy education and statewide public health efforts to address substance use and opioid safety.
