Bio
Dr. He received a Ph.D. from the Institute of Chemistry at the Chinese Academy of
Sciences in Beijing, China. In 2002, He completed postdoctoral fellowship training
at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. He was
previously an associate professor with the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine in
the Department of Internal Medicine at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center
in Columbus, Ohio.
Teaching Synopsis
Dr. Guanglong He teaches Medicinal Chemistry to Pharmacy Students integrating the fundamental structure-activity relationship of drugs and their clinical implications into the curriculum.
Research Synopsis
Dr. Guanglong He’s research integrates cardiovascular physiology, redox biology, and
neuroinflammation to uncover mechanisms linking obesity, cardiometabolic disease,
and neurodegeneration. His work examines lipid droplet biology, CARD9 innate immune
signaling, oxidative stress, and environmental exposures such as vaping and coal dust.
He has served as PI or Co-I on NIH, AHA, and foundation-funded projects, with recent proposals targeting lipid droplet roles in Alzheimer’s disease. His >75 peer-reviewed publications appear in J Mol Cell Cardiol, Hypertension Research, Antioxidants & Redox Signaling, Free Rad Biol Med, PNAS, and J Cell Mol Med.
Dr. He is a prolific presenter, with over 60 abstracts and invited lectures worldwide, including at NIH, University of Science & Technology of China, and the International Academy of Cardiology. His work has contributed new mechanistic insights into vaping-induced cardiopulmonary injury, obesity-related inflammation, and ischemia-reperfusion injury.
