Earning your degree at the University of Wyoming continues to be a great investment. Consistently ranked as one of the best values in both undergraduate and graduate education, UW is excited to offer block tuition for full-time students beginning in fall 2023. Block tuition solidifies UW’s long-term commitment to degree completion without long-term debt for graduates.
Block Tuition is common at many colleges and universities, where rather than paying
tuition per credit, students benefit from a set tuition rate for a “block” of credits.
At UW, block tuition allows undergraduate students to take 12 to 18 credit hours at
the same cost or “block” rate. Graduate students taking 9 to 12 credit hours will
also experience benefits with block tuition.
Block tuition is only charged for the fall and spring semesters. Summer term tuition
will be charged per credit hour rate. Student fees still apply in addition to block
tuition rates.

Block tuition encourages undergraduate students to enroll in at least 15 credit hours per semester. Doing so keeps them on track to complete their degree in 4 years or less.
For graduate students, block tuition encourages continuous enrollment avoiding costly lapses in degree completion. Additionally, block tuition allows them to enroll in classes outside their immediate program without financial impacts that may otherwise prohibit them.
Undergraduate students taking more than 18 hours are charged the block rate for the first 18 hours and then will pay an additional per credit hour rate for each hour over 18, based on their residency.
Graduate students taking more than 12 hours are charged the block rate for the first 12 hours and then will pay an additional per credit hour rate for each hour over 12, based on their residency.
Yes. Graduate students enrolled in 9-12 credit hours will be billed for graduate block tuition. However, Graduate Assistants enrolled in nine credit hours will automatically billed per credit.

Full-time students enrolled in at least 12 credit hours who are unable to enroll in 15 credit hours can apply for an exemption to block tuition. Completion of the electronic exemption form and submission of the appropriate documentation by the student is required. Additional information may be requested by the Block Tuition Appeals Committee.
Electronic exemption forms are available on our Forms page.
Undergraduate students enrolled in 12 to 14 credit hours who are not able to take 15 hours AND graduate students enrolled in 9 credit hours. Exemption requests must be completed and are reviewed each semester. Exemption criteria include:
Graduating seniors who need less than 15 credit hours in their last semester or less than 30 credit hours in the last academic year.
