Microsoft OneDrive

UW provides students, staff, and faculty with 1 TB of cloud storage through Microsoft’s OneDrive. OneDrive is included in your Office 365 account and offers deep integration with other products you are likely using (Word, Outlook, ETC). More information about Office 365 can be found here.

Eligibility: Benefited, non-benefited, student and special accounts are all eligible.

Cost:

• Faculty, Staff, Students, and Individual Special Accounts - 1 TB Free. Additional space may be purchased here.
• Email Only, Department Special accounts and Retirees - 100 GB Free

External Sharing: By default OneDrive users are allowed to share with external users.

Microsoft SharePoint

Microsoft SharePoint is a website creation tool that can be used to securely store, organize, and share department information from any device. UW provides departments and approved organizations with 500 GB of cloud storage. SharePoint site requests can be found here.

Eligibility: All departments

Cost: Free - All storage increases are subject to availability of resources. Additional space may be purchased here.

Storage Limit: Microsoft SharePoint file & size limitations can be found here.

External Sharing: By default SharePoint does not allow for external sharing. Exceptions can be requested here.

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is a collaboration app that that can be used for chat, conferencing, and general workplace collaboration. UW provides eligible individuals the ability to create teams with up to 500 GB of cloud storage per team. More information about Office 365 can be found here.

Eligibility: Benefited, non-benefited, student and special accounts are all eligible.

Cost: Free - All storage increases are subject to availability of resources. Additional space may be purchased here.

Network Storage

Department Warehouse Shares

UW IT provides local CIFS/SMB and NFS shares for departmental use. Shares are available on campus or through the campus VPN¹ and provide a local alternative to cloud storage.

Eligibility: Departments can request shares and all storage increases are subject to availability of resources.

Cost: Departments are provided 5 GB of file storage for free. Additional storage can be purchased in 10GiB increments and pricing can be found here. Prices include nightly snapshots and off-campus replication for data protection.

Storage Limit: Please contact UW IT for questions regarding size limitations.

External Sharing: Warehouse users are not allowed to share with external users.

UW-Bulk Archive Shares

UW IT provides local CIFS/SMB and NFS shares for local archive storage. Shares are available on campus or through the campus VPN¹ and provide a local alternative to cloud storage.

Eligibility: Departments can request shares and all storage increases are subject to availability of resources.

Cost: Storage can be purchased in 10GiB increments and pricing can be found here.

ARCC provides research data storage for the campus community. More information can be found here. Access to GSuite for Education access request can be made here.

¹ Some accounts may be restricted from accessing Warehouse or UW-Bulk on the campus VPN.
