The University of Wyoming's first improvisational theatre team "The Uncontrollably Witty Improv Troupe" will perform its debut show, "THIS JUST IN ." at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, and Thursday, April 9, in the Fine Arts Center Crane Studio. Donations are accepted at the door.
"I could not have asked for better timing," says director/producer Joelle Weber. "With the recent visits of Second City and Colin & Brad from 'Who's Line is it Anyway?' I feel that the UW community is eager to see more improv comedy."
"THIS JUST IN ." creates a raw theatrical experience for its viewers, says Weber. The show will revolve around on-the-spot audience suggestions as two teams of players compete for the most laughs.
"In other forms of acting, I have always tried way too hard to be funny instead of just letting something happen," says Kristal Burk, a sophomore theatre major from Pueblo, Colo. "This experience has been so different because we are not working as individual people. We are a team, and the process has been all about listening to each other and incorporating change as it comes."
The show is sponsored by the Associated Students of the Performing Arts (ASOPA), which specializes in putting together student-run productions for the UW Department of Theatre and Dance. All show donations will go to ASOPA to support future student works.
"It has been amazing to watch the growth of this group over the last several months," says Weber. "My biggest hope is that the community embraces this improv team and urges it to continue for the coming years."
