Clinical psychologist Douglas Scambler will present an overview of autism spectrum disorders at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 22, in the University of Wyoming Union Family Room.
The Wyoming Institute for Disabilities (WIND) in the UW College of Health Sciences and the Student Educational Opportunity (SEO) office will present the discussion as part of Disability Awareness Week at UW.
Scambler has spent the last five years as a licensed psychologist working with children and their families and training graduate students to be clinical psychologists. He has worked extensively with children and adults with attention and behavior disorders as well as developmental disorders including autism spectrum disorders and intellectual deficits.
In 2007, Scambler established a private practice in clinical child psychology in Laramie and recently assumed a part-time position with WIND. He coordinates autism projects at WIND and has focused his efforts on training and research opportunities in the area of autism spectrum disorders. He has co-written nine peer-reviewed articles and a book chapter.
He has a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the University of Kentucky and completed a pre-doctoral internship at Oregon Health Sciences University. Scambler also completed a three-year post doctoral fellowship in autism and developmental disabilities at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colo.
