An international organization that promotes literacy will present its highest honor to Tim Rush, University of Wyoming College of Education elementary and early childhood education professor.
Rush will receive the 2009 International Reading Association (IRA) Jerry Johns Outstanding Teacher Educator in Reading Award May 6, at the association's convention in Minneapolis.
The IRA promotes reading by continuously advancing the quality of literacy instruction and research worldwide.
The award honors Rush because he "knows the field of reading and keeps current in research and practice; is an innovative teacher who initiates and teaches outstanding courses and programs in reading education; assumes leadership positions in appropriate college, school, community and professional organizations; and is a role mode or mentor who inspires and instructs students/teachers to their full potential and supports their development."
With more than 85,000 members, IRA supports literacy professionals through a wide range of resources, advocacy efforts, volunteerism and professional development activities.
