Application Review Timeline

Application reviews will be completed by the end of the following month, except during holidays and summer break, (Our committee does not meet during the months of June, July and August). Applications for spring start MUST be received before November 1^st. Applications for Summer/Fall start MUST be received by April 1^st. International students are encouraged to apply at least one semester in advance of starting classes to allow sufficient time for processing visa and other related paperwork.

Admission Requirements

Criterion	What a strong letter demonstrates
Purpose & Doctoral Goals	Clearly explains why a doctorate, why now, and what the applicant hopes to do with the degree. Goals are specific enough to demonstrate intentionality rather than simply a desire for career advancement.
Preparation & Relevant Experience	Connects prior professional, educational, leadership, teaching, and/or scholarly experiences to readiness for doctoral study. Goes beyond listing experiences to explain what the applicant has learned from them.
Scholarly/Research Interests	Identifies educational problems, questions, or areas of inquiry the applicant wants to explore. The applicant does not need a dissertation topic, but demonstrates curiosity and an emerging capacity to think about educational issues as questions worthy of systematic study.
Program & Faculty Fit	Demonstrates an informed reason for pursuing the doctorate specifically in Curriculum & Instruction at UW. Makes meaningful connections between the applicant's interests/goals and the program, concentration, and/or potential faculty mentors
Quality of Written Communication	Serves as a writing sample that demonstrates the applicant’s readiness for doctoral-level written communication. Presents ideas clearly, coherently, and professionally; develops and connects ideas effectively; and demonstrates appropriate command of grammar, mechanics, and academic writing conventions.

How to Apply

Step 1: Apply to UW and the School through the online applicant portal.

1. 1. 1. Access the UW graduate applicant portal. Make sure to use the corresponding application admittance semester indicated above.
      2. After completing the initial information page, you will receive an email from the system including a link and your temporary username and password.
      3. Please complete the contact, academic, residency information, etc.
      4. Submit the application fee
      5. Submit ALL required documents listed above to the online document portal

 

Step 2: Submit official copies of transcripts to UW Admissions.
