George Duke Humphrey

George Duke Humphrey (1945-1964)

Humphrey was the President of the University of Wyoming from 1945-1964.  He was born in Tippah County, Mississippi, August 30, 1897.  He attended MississippiStateTeacherCollege (University of Southern Mississippi) and received his B.A. from Blue Mountain College in 1929.  In 1931 he achieved his M.A. from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. from Ohio State University in 1939.  Humphrey also holds an honorary LL.D. degree from Ohio Wesleyan University (1959) and the Litt. D. degree from the University of Arizona (1962).

UW's annual George Duke Humphrey Distinguished Faculty Award is named after President Humphrey.
