Charles O. Merica (1908-1912)

Charles O Merica was originally from Mount Pleasant, Iowa. He was a graduate of DePauw University in Indiana.  President Merica's academic focus was on rehabilitation at correctional institutions.  In 1891, he was elected president of the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.  After his term as president of the University of Wyoming from 1908-1912, President Merica returned to Indiana.  In 1913, he purchased a newspaper in Kendalville, Indiana, which he published until his death in 1918.

Merica Hall on the main UW Campus gets its name from President Merica.
