Family & Consumer Sciences

Nutrition | Dietetics Licensure

The Family & Consumer Sciences Dietetics degree program at the University of Wyoming has a licensure component after graduation. Students must take and pass the Registration Examination for Dietitians administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), for more info on the exam please see the following link: https://www.cdrnet.org/. The UW Dietetics program is accredited by the  Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), for more info on the accreditation please see the following link: https://www.cdrnet.org/graduatedegree. Beginning on January 1, 2024, the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) requirements to take the Registration Examination will change from a bachelor’s degree to a master’s degree. CDR requires that individuals complete coursework and supervised practice in program(s) accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). The master’s degree can be in any major. Dietitians credentialed prior to 2024 are NOT required to get a master’s degree to remain credentialed. For more information on the Dietetics program at UW please see the following link: https://www.uwyo.edu/fcs/undergraduate-programs/human-nutrition-and-food/dietetics.html Every U.S. State, Territory, and District has their own licensing board for Dietetics licensure and our institution must meet their requirements for a student to practice in that area. This means even sitting for the licensing examination does not guarantee the ability to work in all U.S. areas and/or may require additional courses or field work for a student to obtain the ability to work in the U.S. area of their choice. UW cannot guarantee that a student will receive licensure in any U.S. State, District, or Territory. Every applicant is reviewed on a case by case basis for selection.  For more information you can contact the Family & Consumer Sciences department at  fam-consci@uwyo.edu or Compliance and Review Specialist Erika Helgeson at ehelgeso@uwyo.edu or 307-766-3423. Please select from the following list below of U.S. States, Territories, or Districts to see if our program meets or does not meet the education requirements for a student to obtain a license and practice in the the following areas.
