Wellness in the WEST
designed to support the overall wellbeing of UW employees
WEST: Where Everyone Strengths Together
The idea for Wellness in the WEST was developed to focus on employee retention and community building. We have known since the COVID-19 pandemic that caring for each other and improving our employee's wellness helps our students succeed both academically and personally. While strong support systems are available for students, we recognize that employees face similar challenges and that resources can be difficult to access. With this in mind, the Wellness in the WEST program was established to better connect employees to meaningful, accessible support.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)
MHFA is an seven-hour certificate training that teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use concerns.
Employees who complete MHFA training receive a $20 monthly Half Acre gym premium credit, applied through payroll for the primary insurance holder only (per EGI guidelines), with eligibility to continue the credit for an additional 12 months after training completion.
For anyone who has taken MHFA and has received a premium credit for a full 12-month period, a new training is available to continue the benefit. Learn more at Log in | The Jed Foundation Learning Platform. (Use your UW email to set up an account and take the “It’s OK to Say Suicide: Knowledge, Action, and Support for Suicide Prevention” training.)

Holistic Wellness
Our view of holistic wellness is rooted in the 8 interconnected dimensions of the
wellness wheel. Our wellness work together is designed to sustain overall health and
well-being. Check out all our great campus resources that support students and staff
on campus. Supporting mental health is not just about addressing crises but also fostering
a proactive, sustainable approach to well-being. Studies show that students and employees
who are mentally and emotionally healthy are more engaged, creative, and productive.
Our services are designed to cultivate resilience, enhance self-awareness, and build
strong interpersonal skills, leading to both individual success and a more vibrant
campus community.
Check Back Often for New Offerings & Updates
UW values the health and wellbeing of its employees and strongly encourages those who may benefit from these services to take advantage of this resource. We look forward to expanding Wellness in the WEST and sharing additional offerings in the months ahead.
