About
Charles (Charles) Mason is the H. A. "Dave" True, Jr. Chair in Petroleum and Natural Gas Economics in the Department of Economics and past Associate Dean for Research in the College of Business at the University of Wyoming. He is an internationally known scholar who specializes in Environmental and Resource Economics with over 90 publications in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters. He testified in the case against BP related to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Over the past 25 years he has served in a variety of editorial roles: associate editor of the European Economic Review (from 2012 to 2023); co-editor of Economic Inquiry (from 2015 to 2022); for the Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists he was a joint interim managing editor in 2013)=, as well as co-editor from 2014 to 2016. He served as the managing editor of the internationally important Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, from 2006 to 2011. He is currently the joint editor-in-chief of Strategic Behavior in the Environment (since 2012) and the Economics of Energy and Environmental Policy (since 2021). He earned a double B.A. in Economics and Mathematics in 1977 and a Ph.D. in Economics in 1983, all at the University of California at Berkeley. He has been a visiting academic at the University of Cambridge (2003); the London School of Economics (2014, 2015); the University of Oxford (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012); the Venice International University, Ca’ Foscari (2013); and the Toulouse School of Economics (2013). He is a University fellow at Resources for the Future, an Area Member of CESifo (the Center for Economic Studies and the info Institute for Economic Research), and an honorary life member of the French Association of Environmental and Resource Economists. He has been on the faculty at the University of Wyoming since 1982.
