Joshua Schumm

Joshua Schumm, Ph.D., is an Instructional Assistant Professor of Supply Chain Management at the University of Wyoming. He brings 15 years of industry experience to the classroom, having worked with Inc. 5000, Fortune 50, and small businesses while holding leadership positions in operations and supply chain management. He is also a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.

 

Dr. Schumm’s teaching emphasizes connecting supply chain concepts to the decisions managers make in practice. Drawing on his industry experience, he focuses on helping students understand not only supply chain tools and frameworks, but also how those tools are applied to solve operational problems, make better decisions, and improve organizational performance. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in operations, supply chain management, sourcing, logistics, and related areas.

 

His research examines the human and organizational dimensions of supply chains, with particular emphasis on supply chain labor and forced labor. His broader research interests include illicit supply chains, trucking and transportation, social sustainability, and how financial flows affect operations and supply chains. His work has appeared in journals including the *Journal of Business Logisticsand *Transportation Journal*.

 

Dr. Schumm also maintains an active consulting practice, working with organizations and leaders on operational and business challenges. His combination of industry experience, teaching, research, and consulting informs an applied approach to both scholarship and the classroom.

 

He earned his Ph.D. in Supply Chain Management from Iowa State University, his MBA from Washburn University, and his B.S. from Kansas State University. In 2024, he was a recipient of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals Doctoral Dissertation Award.
