Deferring Enrollment

Deciding If Deferment is Right for You

The University of Wyoming is committed to supporting students in achieving their educational goals and we recognize that life events may require adjustments to those plans. That is exactly why UW offers students the option to defer enrollment if necessary. Students may choose deferment for various reasons, including personal circumstances, financial challenges or military service commitments. Deferring enrollment ensures students have the opportunity to address their needs and begin their studies when they are ready and able to commit to their academic journey.

Submit a Deferral Request

Steps for Deferment

Students wishing to defer enrollment at the University of Wyoming must be admitted for the current or upcoming semester. To begin the process, communicate with your advisor to discuss your options. If you decide to move forward with deferral, submit a deferral request form. Then, confirm the deferral with the admissions office.

This is an important decision. UW admissions counselors can provide valuable guidance.

Deferment FAQs

Each student who chooses deferment has their own circumstances and reason for making that choice. While the circumstances may be unique, there are a few questions that frequently pop up with students considering deferring their enrollment.

Students may only defer enrollment one time before needing to reapply.

Students ready to re-enroll after deferment are required to provide final, official transcripts from any schools attended since last applying for admission.
