Deferring Your Enrollment
UW Admissions
New students admitted to UW may choose to defer their enrollment for up to one academic
year. The process for officially deferring your enrollment is outlined below. Students must complete their deferment prior to the first day of classes for which
they were originally admitted.
Students who have previously been enrolled at UW should consult the admission policies
for Returning Students.
Undergraduates - new freshmen or transfers:
- Complete the online Defer Your Admissions form prior to the first day of classes for which you were originally admitted.
- A student may only defer one time without the need to reapply.
- Deferring your enrollment does not guarantee scholarships, aid, and other opportunities
which may have been offered to you, as many of these offers are specific to you entering
in the term for which you were originally admitted. You must apply for these opportunities
again based on your new entry term.
- You are required to update the Admissions Office in writing regarding felony and/or
behavioral suspensions which occurred since you last applied for admission.
- You are required to provide final, official transcripts from any schools you attended
since you last applied for admission.
- Any enrollment deposit paid and not refunded prior to the published deadlines for
the semester for which you were originally admitted will be forfeited. You will be
responsible for any new enrollment deposits required of you for your new entry term/semester.
- Students who fail to defer their enrollment are asked to reapply for admission.
Graduate students:
- You must get the approval of the Graduate Program for which you were admitted. The
program will submit their approval to the Admissions Office.
