Sherra St Clair:
McMurry Chair of Mental Health - Clinical Assistant Professor
Sherra St Clair assumes the new position as McMurry Chair of Mental Health Nursing fall of 2021, providing oversight to the integration of mental health into care delivery across nursing programs at the University of Wyoming Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing.
St Clair's new position will focus on education and practice to increase the quality and quantity of psychiatric mental health practices into care delivery by working with other faculty across programs and collaborating with key stakeholders around the state to identify and assist in implementing best practices.
St Clair's Road to Psychiatric Nursing
Sherra says she was inspired to pursue psychiatric nursing by several neonatal ICU nurses who "lovingly changed the course of her life". We are hoping she will elaborate on that statement for a special spotlight down the road! StClair received her BSN and DNP, PMHNP at the University of Wyoming after 20 years as a Medical Illustrator.
Sherra did not mention in her biography what her resume included, i.e., the education she received to support her Medical Illustrator career. We think it is noteworthy to share that hard work as well: Sherra received her Master of Fine Arts in Medical and Biological Illustration at the University of Michigan in 1998, following her Bachelor of Arts in the Humanties and Fine Arts --with Honors--and a Minor in Biology here at the University of Wyoming in 1996.
Back to the current times: As the new and very first Chair of Mental Health at UW, Sherra will teach DNP and BSN classes, continue her clinical work at Healthworks in Cheyenne, and will be active in community and state-wide outreach to improve mental health in Wyoming. St Clair is the proud mom of two sons, two Pitbull rescues, and a sock-hunting cat named Argyle. Sherra spends her free time straw bale gardening, playing the piano, and always learning something new.
