My passion area is exploring the relationship between nursing characteristics, nurse staffing and the nursing work environment on the quality of patient care and nursing sensitive patient outcomes (e.g., healthcare-associated infections, falls, pressure ulcers).
My passion is developing leadership in nurses in all roles. I believe nurses are the key to patient safety, and without strong leadership skills we are not able to influence patient care the way we should.

I truly love teaching. As a nurse there is always the opportunity to teach, whether it is a patient, another nurse, or co-worker. There is also always the opportunity to continually learn. Moving into a Nurse Educator role is both challenging and exciting. I love seeing how eager students are to learn and the starry eyes when they master a new skill.
Professors Mary Anne Purtzer, Ann Wislowski, and Jenifer Thomas and nursing staff members LeAnn Amen-McConnell and Debbie Shoefelt receive awards and honors from UW and/or the School of Nursing.
I’ve always seen nursing linking up with the world of disability. The needs are great, and nurses have much to offer that population. I worked as an independent Medicaid waiver nurse with a gentleman who needed tube feedings and medication, along with trach care and assessments. He very much touched my life, and I hope I touched his.
Emergency nursing is my true passion. I feel like I have been an ER nurse my entire life. I grew up as the only girl on a street with fearless boys. When anyone got hurt, which was often, they always looked to me to bandage them up. When I was a nursing student, I tried to develop interests in other areas, but kept coming back to emergent care. ER nursing comes so natural to me, and I tend to work best when faced with a critical situation.
I especially enjoy how nursing students and RN's in Wyoming and from all around the country come together from both rural and urban locales, sharing their experiences from various work settings! It adds a richness to learning that can't be found in a textbook.

Alert response to clinic patients leads UW professor to rewarding research: Professor Carron's interest in her research topic ["Psychosocial Distress, Coping, and Health-Related Quality of Life in Adult Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)") seems unusual in that it stems from her clinical work as a Family Nurse Practitioner in Dermatology.
