Get to Know your faculty series

JoHanna Wedemeyer, MSN, RN
Assistant Lecturer

Meet Johanna Wedemeyer

What courses do you teach?

I am newer to teaching. I have precepted new nurses in the hospital setting and also precepted students during clinicals in the hospital.

Which program students will have you as a professor?

I will be working with the BRAND students and also with students in the Basic BSN program. I will be doing clinicals with the BRAND students and working with the Basic BSN students in their Capstone placements.

What brought you to Wyoming, UWYO?

I originally moved back to Wyoming from Colorado for a nursing job. I grew up in Cheyenne and am happy to be close to family members again. I moved to Wheatland, Wyoming about five years ago.

How long have you been with UW SoN?

I just started with the University of Wyoming School of Nursing this fall 2015.

What were you doing previous to this position at UW?

I have been working in a small Critical Access hospital in Wheatland, Wyoming as an RN. I primarily work in OB and Med Surg.

What is your passion area?

My passion area is Nursing. There is always something new to learn or another area of nursing to explore.

Many faculty have “side interests” that help define who they are. Can you share?

My side interests are of course my family, including my husband and my teenage son. I also have a houseful of animals including two miniature horses and four dogs. We are hopefully adding to our menagerie with chiweenie pups sometime in October.

Do you see a relationship now or in the future with your side interest(s) linking up with nursing?

I think that my love of animals is incorporated into my compassion as a nurse everyday.

What do you like best about teaching?

I truly love teaching. As a nurse there is always the opportunity to teach, whether it is a patient, another nurse, or co-worker. There is also always the opportunity to continually learn. Moving into a Nurse Educator role is both challenging and exciting. I love seeing how eager students are to learn and the starry eyes when they master a new skill.
