THREE UWYO NURSING FACULTY MAKE "TOP PROF" STATUS FOR 2019!
Members of the University of Wyoming's senior honor society honored their "Top Profs"
last month at the 40th annual Top Prof Night. Paula Belknap, PhD, MSN, RN, CMSRN,
CNE; Sherrie Rubio-Wallace, RN, MS, FNP; and Christina Warren, MS, RN, are the three
UW nursing faculty members in the spotlight this year. According to the UW News December 2nd article, "Members of the Cap and Gown Chapter of Mortar Board selected professors who have positively
influenced their lives at UW. These professors go beyond normal classroom expectations
to help their students succeed."
Each of the four nursing senior students in Mortar Board wrote a paragraph about their faculty choice to share at the Top Prof award ceremony. Scroll down for their submissions. Congratulations to our wonderful nursing faculty!!
“Paula really cares about each one of her students,” says student Jordyn Cox, “and tries to prepare them as best as possible for after graduation and the real world!” Cox was impressed by the time Belknap dedicated to make sure students not only knew the material, but had the resources for the NCLEX “to help us best pass and become amazing nurses like she knows we can be!”
"It is hard to sum up in words what Paula Belknap has done for me," begins McCoy, "in the year and a half I've had the pleasure of knowing her. I can confidently speak for all of my classmates when I say we strive to be just like her. Paula leads by example, and what an example that is. She teaches and practices with a passion and drive that is incomparable. To say that I have learned from her would be a gross understatement. She is someone that should and will be mentioned in thank you speeches, awards ceremonies, and distinguished conferment for years to come. Thank you Paula for giving such a fantastic example of a provider and a human being."
"I nominated Christina Warren," says O'Connor, "for all of her help during our first year of nursing school. Christina was not only one of our lecturers, but also our clinical instructor. Christina led myself and other students to understanding how to interact with patients in the hospital setting and allowed us to become comfortable taking our next steps into a nursing career." O'Connor said Warren "has been a freindly face throughout our time in nursing school." She adds that is has been "comforting to have a professor like her that goes out of her way to help us all." O'Connor concludes: "Christina, thank you for a great introduction to nursing clinical and for being a guiding hand for us all over the past two years. We certainly are lucky to have an instructor like you!"
"Sherrie is a great professor," begins Stromberg, "with a lot of passion for her work and for us as students. One of the things that stands out about Sherrie is her adaptability. Whether we have problems in class or out of class, she is always willing to work with us to help us with whatever arises. She is also a great resource if we need further help or explanations on assignments or advice for outside the classroom. She is very supportive of anything we bring to her and always encourages us to push our potential. She helped in organizing all of our clinical sites this semester and definitely takes the time to see how we are doing and how we feel about our classes and clinical experiences. I am so thankful for all the input she provides and all that she does for us!"
